Current Treatment for Diastolic Heart Failure The treatment of patients with diastolic heart failure is mainly empirical. The treatment includes modification of the underlying risk factors for the disease (such as hypertension and diabetes) and administration of medications used for treating systolic heart failure. Presently, there are no medications or devices that can specifically improve left ventricular relaxation and diastolic function. There is a wide range of devices aimed to treat systolic heart failure, including left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and biventricular pacing devices, all in clinical use. None of these devices can present a solution for the many DHF patients since they do not improve LV relaxation and filling. |
